Mr. Sherman tried a civil rights case against the Los Angeles Police Department on behalf of children of one of the most infamous bank robbers in California history. Robbers were stopped outside a bank, dressed in full body armor and carrying automatic weapons. They engaged police officers in a 45 minute gun battle outside the bank that left both of them dead. On behalf of the children of one of the dead robbers, Mr. Sherman argued that the police purposely left one of the robbers to die rather than providing necessary medical treatment. Although the jury refused to grant the children any monetary damages, after a month long trial, they did agree that the LAPD did not take sufficient action to protect the life of one of the robbers, despite the heinous activity of him and his accomplice.
