Defendant was acquitted in Federal Court in Los Angeles of serious RICO charges, including murder. After a month long trial, the Court granted a motion for judgment of acquittal on all charges. Defendant was the brother of the owner of several grocery stores. The government had been investigating the family for more than 20 years, and had spent almost two years conducting a wiretap investigation. This was one of the most important and extensive RICO investigations ever conducted in the Los Angeles area, and involved the alleged illegal receipt of more than $103 million dollars in illicit proceeds.
